A story idea I was developing for all of high-school and two years of college, the script follows an assassin as he tracks down the missing pieces to unlocking his past, against the wishes of those in power. This script showcases my ability to properly pace and structure a long-form narrative as well as strong characterization and smart dialogue. It also is notable for how unique the setting of the story is, and how that plays into the overall themes of the narrative

Reflections: This was a project made out of passion rather than for a client, and the target audience for this would be young adults ages 13-24, primarily males. Made mainly to entertain, this script was completed in August of 2019 and is written entirely by myself. From writing this, I learned how to finish long-form writing projects and what's required to fill out an entire feature-length script. Through writing this, I gained a much better grasp of story structure and pacing.

Originally written for my advanced narrative class, Jai, a down on his luck aspiring writer, comes into possession of a magic pen which tricks everyone into thinking anything he writes is good. Conflict arises when the pen's old owner reappears seeking to be reunited with his property. With snappy dialogue and a tale of how the desire to "make it" can lead one down a dark path, this feature-length script consists of an insane series of events culminating in a Sharknado laying waste to a major metropolis. You know, normal Tuesday things. This presents my comedic abilities as well as how I write interpersonal relationships and how those affect the characters.

Reflections: Written primarily for my Narrative writing class and my professor specifically, this script was also made mainly for the purpose of entertainment. I finished writing it in May of 2020 and learned how to take and implement criticism from writing this script. It helped me to better hear and listen to critiques of my own work.

Derelict

This short script has everything that defines a script written by Grant Galvin. Sharp dialogue, an interesting setting, and compelling characters. Set in the far future, two former friends find themselves searching for the same treasures on a derelict ship. Simple set-up, interesting conclusion.

Reflection: Written for another narrative screenwriting class and a separate professor, this short script was also written to entertain. I completed it in February of 2019 and mainly utilized my skill at writing believable and witty dialogue in this script. I learned how to condense a story to its most essential aspects when writing this script, as it had a hard page limit.

Podcast Production/On-air Talent

Preferred Tone of Show: Laid back and frivolous, more so to entertain than to inform

Unscripted Season 2: Stephen Holland

In this edited version of the live-recorded show, me and my guest, Stephen Holand, come up with insane story ideas using two random words and a genre. This episode highlights the comedic absurdity of the stories that I was intending for the show.

Reflection: Created for StudiOU for my radio practicum, this radio show was created with teens ages 13-24 in mind. I recorded this episode in October of 2019 and the edited version was completed in November of 2019, this show helped me to develop my on-air skills and to better find the balance between entertainment and information that is vital to crafting a successful podcast.

Unscripted Season 1: Ryan Smith

In this earlier episode of the show, me and the guest that week, Ryan Smith, have strange conversations while also coming up with some half-decent ideas. This episode highlights my skills at directing the conversation mid-show while keeping the flow of the discussion feeling natural and comedic.

Reflection: Originally created for StudiOU and the same practicum as previously stated, this show was aimed for 13-24 year-olds and was recorded in March of 2019. Despite being rough around the edges, this show and episode specifically helped me to better develop my on-air personality and comedic style.

Cinesters Episode 6: Rampage

This episode of my previous podcast which I co-hosted with Luis Juarez and Ben Possehl is a good example of the dry-wit and sarcastic tone I've come to be known for. On top of that, it exemplifies my intriguing and engaging insight on film and media.

Reflections: Produced independently and made with audiences of ages 13-24 in mind, this podcast was focused on entertaining folks as well as providing them with a unique insight into the world of film through the eyes of three film students. This episode was recorded in April of 2018 and my only role in this was as talent and editor. This show helped me to learn what it takes to produce a podcast as well as how to adapt to and deal with constantly shifting time shcedules.

This less than a minute clip shows competent framing and lighting as well as a surprising twist at the end.

Reflections: Originally made as an exercise for my Cinematography class, this short scene was completed in April of 2019 and was made purely for entertainment. My role in this was that of director and camera operator, and this exercise helped me to further develop my skills operating the camera as well as taught me how to better light scenes.

The Chase
